Q & A with Mr. Rating Officer

1.

Q:

Hello,

May I know the procedure to achieve national rating/FIDE rating in chess?
I have searched the internet, and what I get is only the way to get GM/IM/FM/NM title.
Please help.
Thank you.
Regards,
Iyas
A:
For National Rating, you need to join any national-rated tournament in Malaysia. Please take note that not every tournament in Malaysia is national-rated, you have to check with Organiser whether is their event going to be national-rated. People without rating will get their 1st rating in the following quarter of the year whwn the new rating list is released.
For FIDE Rating, you must play at least 9 players with FIDE rating and score at least 2 points [M'sia standard] within a period of 2 yrs in FIDE-rated tournament [4/5 days per event].

Q:
Hello,

Sorry to bother you again. Two more questions,
1- Referring to your answer, are ALL participants(that have no rating) in a national-rated tournament will be given their rating(the following quarter), or is it just for say, top 10 winners?
2- What happen if say, one player, plays 2 national-rated tournaments before the release of the new rating, but there is a slight error in the spell of his name between the two event?
Thanks for your answer and for your time. Most appreciated.
Regards,
Iyas
A:
1. All participants.
2. The names must be consistent to ensure you’ve collected rating games from both events.

Q:

Hi,

Q:
What is the procedure to organize a national-rated event?
I have asked you a number of questions, and I feel obliged to spread your answers in the internet.
Kind like a thank you message from me. I will let you know if I do publish the answers.
Recently I joined Gula Perlis Open Chess Challenge 2009(My first tournament since 2000). They spelled my name ILYAS instead of IYAS. The name goes MUHAMMAD ILYAS ILIAS instead of MUHAMMAD IYAS ILIAS.
I wonder how MCF handle this particular issue.
Regards,
Iyas
A:
To organise a national-rated event, firstly you need to inform MCF Secretary, Gregory Lau, or inform me directly via Email at least 2 weeks before the event. MCF has the rights to accept or reject the application for an event to be rated. If accepted, I will send the organiser the latest published rating list. Also, a list of checklist that the Organiser needs to fulfill before the event can be rated successfully. Organiser needs to send the tournament file back to me for rating purposes.
It is the onus of the player to contact me directly for any mispelled names upon the release of new rating list. However, the name update will take effect only at the next new release.
